2003 St. Louis

For all of you die hard collectors who cannot wait 6 months for the next big Hot Wheels event consider coming to St. Louis. For the last 6 years this event has been hosted by the Gateway Hot Wheelers. Until this year the event was located about 20 miles from St. Louis in Collinsville, IL. This year it has been moved to the Airport Holiday Inn. This is a great change! Even an extra commute of 20 miles adds to the effort required to attend. Now you simply grab a flight to St. Louis, step outside the airport and you are there. For the serious collector there is no need to leave the hotel except for once or twice to the grocery store to stock up the cooler and snacks.

This event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. I decided to drop in on Monday for some R&R and a chance to meet some of the local collectors.

A great time was had by all at this years event. One of the highlights for me was the weather! On Monday and Tuesday the lightning show was incredible. There was so much thunder and lightning, it was just like a Fourth of July show. The thunder was like explosives it was so loud. The windows of the hotel shook. I tried to get a photo of the lightning and did manage to get a small bolt on film. However at times the entire sky lit up with electricity. On Tuesday there was record rainfall. All the while the days were sunny and warm.

We all had a great time. Next year I will post up here all the brochures for the local attractions so that when you come to St. Louis you can plan to see the local tourist attractions.
